Which add-on pack is best to use with Beaver Builder?

This comes down to what you’re trying to achieve. There are many advanced modules in the paid-for version of the Beaver Builder plugin that make add-on packs redundant. If your site requires an advanced post module and filter, or if you need hover or text effects, then module packs can satisfy those requirements.

Some add-on packs offer a lot of very useful elements, but you should be aware that in addition to new modules, in some cases add-on packs will also inject their own functions like ‘save and preview’ and row settings that might confuse your end users.

Most add-on packs are published as a single WordPress plugin, so when you install them, they will add lots of new modules to your site. You can turn modules on and off in the Beaver Builder page builder settings but this will only prevent them from displaying in the front-end page builder panel. Some add-on packs also come with row and page templates. So if your requirement is for a single simple module, you may find some add-on packs too extensive for your needs.

Which themes work best with Beaver Builder?

The Beaver Builder page builder plugin works well with most themes and doesn’t need the Beaver Builder Theme to be able to function.

Obviously, the Beaver Builder theme is 100% compatible with the plugin but many developers use Genesis and Genesis Child themes in combination with Dynamik Builder with great success. GeneratePress is fast becoming another popular choice.

David Waumsley has written an extensive post on this subject – a must read if you’re trying to decide on a suitable theme for your next Beaver Builder project.

Other themes offer varying levels of success – you’ll find specific settings like hiding page titles in your theme require some fiddling to get to work. However since most of the page builder functionality resides within the content element of your theme, you should find the Beaver Builder plugin works well with just about any well-coded theme.

Does the Beaver Builder plugin use shortcodes to display modules?

Beaver Builder, unlike many other page builders, does not compose pages using shortcodes. This is a major benefit of using the Beaver Builder Plugin as you always retain ownership of your content.

What does that mean exactly?

If you spend hours and hours entering text, images and other content into some page builders and it stops working, you could end up losing the text and images and be left with a mass of ugly shortcodes instead. Your beautiful page of elegantly composed text and images could end up looking like garbage and leaving you with the time-consuming task of picking out the content from within the code.

Always consider that you might be creating a website for a client and handing them a ticking time bomb if the page builder you have chosen uses shortcodes to display your content.

Beaver Builder doesn’t wrap your content in shortcodes and if you ever turn it off or in the unlikely event of that the Beaver Builder plugin stops working, your content will remain intact and editable from within the usual WordPress editor.
